The Computer Information Systems Department at Missouri State University offers MBA students a concentration in Computer Information Systems (CIS). For those with computer science or undergraduate CIS degrees, the MBA enhances their business knowledge base.

For those, with no business or computing background, this option can be viewed as a starting point for those desiring a position such as an IT Business Analyst. These students, without undergraduate CIS/MIS degrees, take selected courses from the undergraduates CIS curriculum in addition to the MBA-CIS concentration. In this way, the student receives a foundation in CIS as well as a business foundation from the MBA.

A CIS Area of Concentration requires taking 12 credit hours or 3 CIS courses. These courses are in addition to CIS 661 which is required of all MBA students, CIS 690 which is the Seminar course for the CIS Area of Concentration and CIS 500 which is required for those students entering the MBA program from undergraduate experiences other than business.

Select 3 courses from the following:

CIS 525 Computer Security: A managerial approach of the computer security's impact on a firm's tactical and strategic mission. (A student electing the CIS concentration may take a maximum of two 500-level courses).

CIS 528 Database Management Systems Implementation: Application of database management principles to the implementation of a business information system. Emphasis will be on the design, construction, testing, and installation of a comprehensive database system using SQL, fourth-generation language or other data access tools.

CIS 620 Project Management in Management Information Systems: A study of concepts and practices of IT project managers.

CIS 625 Neural Networks: An introduction to the use of Neural networks to solve business problems.

CIS 660 Health Care Information Systems: Analysis and examples are used to explain the concepts and practices of information systems within the health care system. (Proposed)

CIS 694 Internship in CIS: The student works within the IT section of a firm. A paper and manager's evaluation are submitted at the end of the internship. The CIS Department works in concert with the Career Center as well as corporate partners seeking CIS interns.

CIS 696 Independent Study: Researching and writing a paper under the direction of a faculty member. This course requires that the student learn how to do research, assemble the research materials and write a scholarly paper.

CIS 697 Special Topics: To be determined by the professor.
